Have you ever found yourself in that foggy, in-between place where your baby’s sleep goes sideways, naps fall apart, and you don’t know whether to wait it out or make a change?
Your gut says, Hold on.
But your brain—fueled by Google tabs—says, Fix it now.
If you’ve ever felt torn between trusting your instincts and doing “the right thing,” you’re not alone. In fact, the pause you’re fighting might be exactly what your nervous system (and your baby’s) needs most.
The Wisdom in Waiting
As a culture, we’ve been taught to rush solutions—to fill the silence, to do something when things feel uncertain. But as both a mama and a therapist, I’ve learned that clarity doesn’t always come from action. It comes from stillness.
When my father passed away earlier this year, life forced me into a long, uncomfortable pause. My motivation disappeared. My creativity flatlined. And for months, I judged myself for slowing down.
But grief has its own rhythm. It taught me something profound: the pause wasn’t weakness—it was wisdom. It was my body and nervous system saying, “Let me catch up.”
When I finally stopped pushing and started listening, everything began to shift. Including my work.
Babies Grow in Waves—So Do We
One of the most beautiful things I see in my practice is that babies never develop in straight lines.
They grow in waves.
One week, they’re mastering a new skill. The next, they’re clingier, fussier, or waking more at night. And we panic—is something wrong?
But often, it’s just a processing pause—their body and brain doing deep integration work we can’t see yet.
When we rush to “fix” what’s not broken, we interrupt that rhythm. The same is true for us. When we act from panic instead of presence, we override our body’s innate timing.
Sometimes the most supportive thing we can do—for ourselves and our babies—is to pause. To breathe. To let the wave settle before deciding what comes next.
The Power of a 10-Second Pause
Try this:
The next time your baby stirs in the night and your instinct is to rush in, take a slow breath. Wait ten seconds.
That tiny pause can give your baby’s nervous system a chance to regulate—to roll over, resettle, or simply move through a light sleep cycle. It’s not about ignoring your baby; it’s about trusting their rhythm.
We use this same principle in occupational therapy: watch, wait, and wonder. When we hold space instead of rushing to rescue, we invite growth, confidence, and resilience—both in our babies and in ourselves.
From Hustle to Flow
That sacred pause eventually birthed something new for me—The Holistic Baby Flow Method.
It didn’t come from hustle or a 3 a.m. brainstorm.
It came from healing.
This method weaves together everything I’ve learned—sleep, feeding, development, and nervous system regulation—into one clear, compassionate path. It’s about helping you and your baby find your own natural rhythm, without pressure or performance.
Because nervous system safety isn’t built through doing more.
It’s built through attunement, presence, and trust—especially in the pauses.
If You’re in the Fog Right Now…
Maybe you’re not sure whether to change nap schedules, try a new approach, or just ride it out.
Let this be your permission slip: you don’t need to rush clarity.
Sometimes the most attuned thing you can do is simply pause—take a breath, get quiet, and let your nervous system catch up.
You and your baby are both learning how to move through waves. And in that rhythm, there’s magic waiting to unfold. 💜
